Take a little bit of sex, drugs and booze add some scantily clad cheerleaders, a “class clown” and a lot of adrenaline, and you've got The Prep School Tragedy throwing down one hell of a show. With their unconventional ways and a reckless, controversial attitude, these guys are not to be messed with and their show is not one to be missed or forgotten. The Prep School Tragedy is one of Chicago's premier industrial/alternative bands and definitely knows how to work the crowd. Their super hot cheerleaders known as The Squad, dancing to perfectly choreographed routines in skimpy, skimpy outfits will catch the attention of anyone attending one of their shows. Their extremely catchy tunes like “O-M-G L-O-L F*ck My Life and Go to Hell” are going to be stuck in your head for weeks and weeks and weeks.

Their debut album, “It's All a Show” is a mix of electronica, rock and rap. Think Fred Durst meets Linkin Park, but crazier. With songs like “Seduqtion”, “Smokin’ That Genius (Sippin’ That Bird)”, and “Hate Everything I Do” and a unique, diverse sound, these guys quickly became popular, with their first debut album selling out just as quickly as their show. During their first national tour, they performed with acts such as The Birthday Massacre, Celldweller, Deadstar Assembly, Ventana, Mushroomhead, Prozak, Twiztid and My Life with The Thrill Kill Kult and quickly gained a loyal following in every town they played including Milwaukee, Cleveland and Detroit.
With their industrial and hip-hop sound, their album alone gave me an adrenaline rush placing me mentally at one of their crazy shows with a beer in one hand, while fist-pumping with the other. Listening to their album brought me back to my wild summers spent at Summerfest, in the sea of punk rock kids and metal heads, getting trashed and having an unforgettable, sick time. The guys behind The Prep School Tragedy are pure brilliance. Their sound is so diverse that they are fast becoming popular with a wide variety audience including anyone from the grungy high school crowd, to tattooed and filthy, booze drinking electronica lovers, to preppy Abercrombie & Fitch wearing kids driving around the Northshore with their roof and windows down, to their middle aged moms out looking for some frisky good old fashioned fun.
The Prep School Tragedy scored a big following online at places like MySpace and YouTube, with comments from anything like “I went to high school with that Ben kid” and “I decided to check them out live because I heard them on MySpace thought their music was sick”, to “these guys are pretty fuckin kick-ass.” Some fans went as far as to start fan pages for the band on Tumblr and other sites. If that doesn't scream dedication, what does?
The geniuses behind the sound are front men Benn “TranQ” Guy and Michael “Ignited” Hodes. Their do it yourself ethic is the backbone of their own promotional campaign. They are the ones in charge of everything starting with music, having engineered, produced and mixed the album (along with Sean Payne of Cyanotic) and ending with their own eye catching merchandise. With the way things are going, these guys are guaranteed a long, bad-ass career. I wouldn't be surprised if these guys are the main act at upcoming shows like the Warped Tour and Summerfest.
