Thunder Down Under may have caused rumbling in the skirts of some ladies during their performance at the LaSalle Power Company, but I found the show underwhelming and cliche. While the men were incredibly attractive, I felt they could have brought a little more to the table in terms of art, innovation and interactivity.

I frequent the Chicago burlesque and boylesque scenes quite a bit, so I come to performances with the expectation that I'm going to see art and innovation creatively juxtaposed into a series of acts. In this case, I saw a little innovation, but I also saw a lot of acts that were commonplace 10 years ago.
Don't get me wrong--I relished in every minute I spent watching hot, built foreign men peel off their clothes--but why not give me something a little less conventional than a gangster in white pumas and all white gear dancing to a Hip Hop song? How about a little less "Pour Some Sugar On” and AC/DC and a little more Gotan Project?
I also felt a little disconnected from the performers, which is extremely important when it comes to performance. Instead of just dancing for me and getting it over with, why not give me a little more energy? Why don't you ask me or a nice, soon-to-be-hitched girl (or group of girls) to assist you in the removal of your clothes?
This shit has to be interactive in one way, shape or form. And no, fake orgasm contests are not interactive--they're childish, disruptive and annoying. Give me something real, yo'.
I was also a bit turned off by the emcee's constant emphasis of the performers' A Australian origins. Sure, it's sexy, but a person's national origins matter considerably less when 98 percent of the interaction is nonverbal (as opposed to when they're whispering unmentionable things into your ear).
In spite of all of this, I'm still going to say that the Aussies did fine, and they probably made a lot of other women happy. In my subjectivity, however, I felt there could have been a little more oomph and a lot less Chippendales.
If you're looking for something fun to do for your bachelorette party and you've never had a troupe of men take their clothes off for you, Thunder Down Under will be a good intro for you. Otherwise, I'd recommend putting your funds toward Windy City Burlesque Fest, Vaudezilla and Gorilla Tango.
