When a child walks into a candy store they’re full of excitement. They don’t know if they want Swedish Fish, Jolly Ranchers, Sugar Daddies or Skittles. Imagine fashion incorporated with dancing and acting. This is not your ordinary fashion show - it’s the Blake Martin Productions iCandy. Here each scene came to life with different themes to satisfy the visual palette.

“I felt like a model is one vision and fashion is for everyone. In a candy store each piece of candy is different. iCandy represents each individual and there left with a piece of candy that they want to buy.” explained Blake Martin, CEO of BMP.
As I sat in the front row glazing at the huge stoic red curtains, all around me a variety of sound and movement was felt coming from all sides. The audience was either conversing or looking for a seat, all the while the stage speakers provided a soundtrack showcasing the tasty theme from 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop” and other lyrically convenient tunes.
Radio personality for WGCI & Pop Princess/Singer Demi Lobo, the host of the evening stepped onto the stage in a fierce black dress with feathers on the shoulders. Lobo introduced the first scene simply as “Barbershop.” The red curtain opened and a group of people sat in chairs as if they were at a barbershop while others swept the floor acting out a skit. Next thing you know they all started dancing. The choreography was amazing. As “Hair Down My Back Bitch” by Shanell played, the models rocked white tank tops and denim while looking at their vision into a hand mirror.
Remember the 90’s hit show “Saved by the Bell?“ The next scene took place in a classroom. The dancers were dressed like students and performed as the models strutted the runway in an urban yet preppy look. The patterns were flowers, prints, plaid and stripes. They had on book bags, nerdy glasses, hoodies, jeans and t-shirts. This scène had lots of fun and energy. As the models exited the runway the group of dancers continued the ruse acting as if they were picking on them.
The iCandy fashion show included 10 different scenes in total full of fashion, dancing, skits, comedy and modeling. In the eight scene “Vogue” Martin surprised the audience and joined his dancers on the stage. The crowd was hyped and cheering. The fashion in this scene was a bit more dramatic, the models rocked the high fashion pieces and oversized bow ties. Most of the colors that the models wore was pink, white and blue. “Vogue was my favorite scene, it made everyone fell free.” said Martin.
Along with Barbershop and Vogue, other scenes included titles like Glitz & Glam, Rain, African Scene, Dominatrix, Beau Ideal, 90’s Inspired & Beachwear. Each scene included kick ass choreography followed by fierce modeling. “Out of all the scenes, my favorite was Dominatrix. It was very sexy and exotic.” expressed Martell Stollenwerk, iCandy model. “I wear tight clothing, high heel shoes, it doesn’t mean that I’m a prostitute.” lyrics from En Vogue’s “Free Your Mind.” echoed from the speakers as the models hit the stage in all black. This scene was bold and sexy. The setting was like a bedroom with a bed, candles, a lamp and two chairs. The models sat in the chair or on the bed and took turns ripping the runway. Both models and dancers wore something from their own personal wardrobe.
My personal favorite was “Rain”. When I saw the male models in boxers and rain boots carrying an umbrella, I truly felt like a kid in that candy store and to top it off they played my favorite song by Rihanna, “Umbrella”. The trends in this scene were sexy corsets, boxers and t-shirts. Note to self, if I could go shopping right at this moment I would purchase the gold and black leopard corset - SEXY.
Overall, one could not help but have a blast at iCandy. You could feel the energy of the crowd circulating in the room each time the dancers and models hit the stage. Lobo did a great job of hosting the show and looked stunning in both dresses she pranced around in through the course of the night. It’s evident that Martin worked day and night to make iCandy a success because over 800 people were in attendance. This has to be the best fashion show that I have attended this year.
Last but not least I can’t forget about the Designers who did an incredible job showcasing their pieces. Some of the designers/clothing lines included Josh Banks, Blake Martin, Socialite, Star Studded, Danielle, Tony, MAJELO Clothing, Andrew Christian and other talented designers.
