Why not get the most of this beautiful weather and spend the last days of summer jamming to some of the best music of today. Come to the North Coast Music Festival at Union Park this weekend, where you will hear the sounds of world-renowned DJs David Guetta and Fat Boy Slim, rappers like Common and Wiz Khalifa, plus indie rock bands Gogol Bordello and Of Montreal.

Chicago groups Van Ghost and California Wives will be playing at the NCMF this weekend as well. Also on the roster is one show you cannot afford to miss: The Great Divide, playing on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The Great Divide is quickly becoming one of the hottest bands on Chicago’s festival scene. Once you hear them play, you will know why. Blending their unique fusion of blues, country, soul, funk and rock ‘n roll all into one mind-bending, face melting sound they are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands of 2011. The band even earned favorable reviews from big guys such as Festival Crashers, Here Comes the Flood and Performer magazine. Big names such as JamBase and Chicago Jam Scene, have also embraced The Great Divide for their bold mix of rock, blues, funk and soul. Last year, the band was featured on the third annual Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival together with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

What started out as innocent jamming with friends, turned into a cohesive band of super close musicians who each add their own unique musical twist to create their own brand of music, even their own genre. They praise themselves for “their brand of honest, down-home music”. In the winter of 2008, The Great Divide partnered with Roshambo Records Studio in Hazel Park, Mich. along with the well-known White Room Studio in Detroit and recorded “Reservoir” their first album. The album is self-produced and is a collection of songs which were selected from the band’s already existing repertoire, which they composed last the years of playing and writing together.

So put on your ripped jeans, tanks and flip flops and come to the North Coast Music Festival this weekend, to see a new band with an extremely bright future! Don’t forget to bring your friends. Get ready to party! You will not be disappointed.
