The Who is one of the biggest rock bands of all time. They have sold over a 100 million records and have given us some of the most beloved rock anthems. One of their most ambitious and classic albums is the double album story about a “deaf, dumb and blind boy” named Tommy. Roger Daltrey, the lead singer of the legendary British Invasion band, is making his return to the Chicago area this Friday when he plays the complete rock opera “Tommy” live. The show is just over the border at The Venue inside the Horseshoe Casino in Indiana.

The concert will showcase the groundbreaking rock opera from start to finish along with a number of The Who’s other classics throughout the night. The show will include new mind-blowing theatrics and effects that will take The Who’s music to an unheard level of creativity.

I had the pleasure of seeing Daltrey perform a few years ago at the House of Blues in Chicago. It was also a solo effort, but more of a bare bones event, with the focus solely on Daltrey and his roots. While he went through a good portion of The Who classics, it was clear even then, that both he and the audience were bonding on the “Tommy” songs.

My parents introduced me to The Who and “Tommy” at a young age. I still have memories of going to sleep as a pre-teen to an original vinyl copy of the album. “Tommy” will always hold a special place in my heart.

For visual effects on this tour, Daltrey wants a “Tommy” that speaks to the modern generation, so he has enlisted students from Middlesex University to create their own interpretations. “Get in touch with the spirit of the music and do your own thing. Don’t think of Tommy as a character. Tommy is all of us,” he said to the students before they set upon their task of bringing the music to life.

Although it’s truly a solo outing for this exciting project, Daltry has brought with him a great assemble of musicians. Joining Daltrey will be Frank Simes (guitar and also music director/arranger), Scott Deavours (drums), Jon Button (bass), Loren Gold (keyboards) and also on guitar will be Simon Townshend, younger brother of The Who’s guitarist Pete Townshend.

Whether this is your first time seeing Roger Daltrey or you are a diehard fan, if you love the “Tommy” rock opera then make sure to catch this unique and intimate performance this Friday night at the Horseshoe Casino in Indiana.

Just saw 'Tommy' last week and it was mind-blowing!! I can't get it off my mind, just want to be back there. He had such a connection with the crowd and you are so right, the theatrics were brilliant. This is a MUST SEE show! Daltrey brought it hard, and his voice was still that iconic sound we know and love. Pinball Wizard was definitely my favorite and the riffs were glorified. Please check it out! well worth it!
