Rapper Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent spent a few days in Chicago promoting his new energy drink, Street King in which he will take proceeds from the drink to feed children in Africa. Though a good portion of his time was spent at the National Association of Convenience Stores show at McCormick Place, Jackson spent his last night in Chicago hosting a private party at The Shrine nightclub. The night featured a hot performance by the Pussycat Dolls as over 200 people showed up to party with Jackson.

As I made my way through a crowded small dimly lit room, I managed to make it to the other side of the club which was larger. The DJ booth was set up in the middle, in front of the dance floor and on each side was a private VIP section, in which you needed a special pass to enter. Of course there was another bar loaded with people waiting for free cocktails and Coronas.
While I stood by the VIP section near the club entrance 50 Cent made his way into the club as the DJ bumped his classic “I Get Money” moving the crowd into an uproar. Once the crowd spotted Jackson, everyone pulled out their cell phones and cameras trying to capture this Kodak moment. His fashion style was appealing; he rocked a blue New York Yankees baseball cap with a dark grey blazer and plaid shirt and of course a nice chain around his neck. I always thought Jackson was short but we were the same height with my heels on, so I would say he’s about six feet tall.
DJ Timbuck2 was rocking the place playing mainly hip-hop music by New York artists like 50 Cent, Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel. The music was awesome but not too many people were dancing, instead they were standing around enjoying the free drinks or sitting down at reserved tables. While the music played, there were about five or six TV screens on the wall showing videos of Jackson promoting his new energy drink.
Around 10:45 p.m. Jackson made his way to the stage while fans were still snapping pictures. He thanked everyone for coming out and supporting Street King. The party got better after Jackson introduced the Pussycat Dolls. They made their way to the stage wearing sexy sequence top hats, satin gloves, sequence corsets, fishnet stockings and fierce heels.
There were two lead singers and five dancers who were all dancing in a truly seductive burlesque style. The men in the audience whistled and howled as the ladies teased them by taking off the satin gloves and corsets, leaving them dancing in only sequence bras and underwear. Their dance routine reminded me of the chair striptease at Flirty Girl Fitness.
As the performance took place Jackson chilled in VIP with about 30 other people who were enjoying drinks and appetizers. Jackson was very friendly and very down to earth. He walked through the crowd at least four times with five or six security guards. I almost started screaming, especially when he walked past me and shook my hand, and then he stopped right next to me to take pictures with fans.
All eyes were on the Pussycat Dolls, after each song they came on stage with a different look. This time the lead singer had on a white sexy dress, fishnets, boots and a police hat singing “Foxy Lady.” One of the most memorable songs was the Pink Panther theme music. As they kicked out their legs, shook their bottoms, the audience were cheering them on. When they begin to perform “Loosen up My Buttons” the crowd started singing along as the lead singer danced around in a sequence blue blazer.
The performance lasted about 30-45 minutes and, of course, they performed “Don’t Cha” and “When I Grow Up.” The girls were great but I still like the group better when Nicole Scherzinger was the lead singer but overall the performance was very sexy and the dance choreography was amazing.
After the performance and few drinks in their system, more people were dancing. I was amused when the song “Teach Me How to Dougie” by Cali Swag District came on and this one guy was totally off beat but when the DJ started playing LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” the crowd went insane, everyone was fist pumping, dancing and singing “Party Rock is in the house tonight, everybody just have a good time.” After 20 minutes, I noticed 50 Cent was gone and the crowd was dwindling down around 12:55am.
Overall, it was a great party and Jennifer Williams of Basketball Wives was in attendance, although I didn’t see her she confirmed to me on twitter that she was there. It would have been great to meet her. Although I’m not normally a huge fan of energy drinks, Jacksons grape flavored drink was quite tasty. So maybe it does pay to have these events to showcase your products. Free does pay and perhaps they converted a few on the South Side on a Monday night.
