Liz is Phair'ing well as she winds down her brief acoustic tour with a sold out three night stand in Chicago. The show was a playful bare bones experience where Phair and guitarist (you can tune when your dead) Dino Meneghin play what the mood brings.

| | | It was an absolute joy to hear Phair's voice not mixed in a wall of sound created by young producers establishing their own sound, instead of hers. You just can't fake a good song on stage when there's nothing to back it up with except an acoustic guitar.
The vivid imagery of her lyrics and talented vocals thrust themselves forward to an eagerly awaiting audience. Starting the show by just walking out before the lights had dimmed Phair kept it down and dirty as she playfully quipped, “This is it everyone, no roadies and no fluffers.”
On this tour she opts for a more relaxed set list, takes requests from the audience and even challenges herself in playing the song, “Shit Loads Of Money,” of which she wasn't completely familiar. It was inspiring to see her work out the bridge of the song live on stage and then quipping back as the audience giggles that, “This isn't funny,” smiling the whole time.
The inspired set featured some favorites, “Polyester Bride,””Flower,” “Fuck and Run,” “Supernova,” and showcased some new songs from her upcoming release “Somebody's Miracle.” The title track as well as her current favorite, Everything To Me, shows the softer side of Phair as she ponders the next stage of her life. He new sound pulls Phair back into the singer/songwriter element; less dirty little diva and more grass roots girl.
That is not to say that she doesn't get a little dirty. Phair portrays the bad girl image while daring you to call her out for her dirty words. Not that we mind, she just says what girls talk about at slumber parties and cocktail hours. Her lyrics let us eavesdrop on a conversation that happens when you are not around. Catch up with her when the full-blown tour comes rolling though your little corner of the world in the fall. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
