Chicago, like most other cities, has a very colorful history. It has seen everything from a fire that destroyed almost the entire city to a massacre of gangsters in the late 1920s. Because of the violent and tragic events of this history, much of the Chicago land area is said to be haunted.
There are tons of buildings and cemeteries that people claim to see things in, but one place in particular is home to many different sightings and according to the A&E television show “Sightings,” is one of the most haunted buildings in the city: The Excalibur. It is here that necromancer Neil Tobin performs.
Every Friday night Tobin does a one man show, telling the audience stories and attempting to contact spirits that supposedly live in the building. His stories explain the history of the building, which include being a refuge for a group of women that eventually died while trying to survive the Great Chicago Fire, being a temporary morgue after the Eastland passenger ship wreck in 1915 and being the home of a rich lawyer who committed suicide in the building.
But what's even more chilling than the history of Excalibur, are the supernatural events that are taking place in the building now. One story says there is a little girl that wanders the building, while others tell of a lit candle that shows up on a ledge that is 70 feet above the floor and open beer bottles sitting on tables accompanied by strange noises that occur long after everyone has left the club.
So it makes perfect sense for Tobin to perform his interactive shows in the basement of this old, yet very alive, building. His shows have something for every one. They are proof for supernatural believers, entertaining for non-believers and a history lesson for all.
Admission for the show costs $25 and includes two drinks. Tickets can be purchased in advanced at supernaturalchicago.com. For more information call (312) 266-1944. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
