ATMOSPHERE

Don't expect to see Hell's Angels here, but then again you never know. This is a biker friendly bar and grill that serves up a mean meal with a smile. Kind of like what your mom would rustle up for a couple of you young hellions.

The Twisted Spoke
501 N. Ogden Ave. (original location)
Chicago, IL 60622
(312) 666-1500

Hours: 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sundays through Fridays; 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturdays

CROWD

The 'Bar Wenches' have seen it all; so don't even try to give them trouble. They work hard, and if you meal is a little slow coming it's because the kitchen is makin' it fresh for you, so shut up and drink. Lot's of pictures of 'hog's' on the wall and even the front door has a handle bar to welcome you. There are some TV screens around, playing typical guy TV stuff and there is a good jukebox. You are going to be baffled when you come in here, so come in like you belong there. You will see bikers, but also yuppies and tourists, but make this place your own. The natives can smell fear; don't give them a bad odor. This is a fun place where you can have a good time drinking and eating with friends. It's a place where a lot of people end up after a night of raising hell, and it is just a hog, skip and a jump from the United Center for post concert gatherings.

ENTERTAINMENT

It depends on what you call entertainment. There is a running thing on Saturday Nights called Smut & Eggs (Saturday Midnight til 2:30 a.m.). It is brunch for the liquored up crowd and the entertainment is on the monitors in the form of '70s adult movies. You could also say that watching people watching the entertainment is entertainment as well. Depending upon what you are into there is entertainment everywhere. In along with these images of Smut you should have the Fried Egg Sandwich. The experience is beyond words; mostly moans coming from the good food intercoursing with the customers, or is that cuming from the monitors?

FOOD & LIQUOR

Along with Smut & Eggs there are other special days Whiskey Wednesdays (Wednesday night duh) and Bodacious Biker Brunch (Saturday & Sunday 11 am to 3 pm). They also have a slew of beers that you wouldn't typically find at a biker bar, but still hit the spot. The Twisted spoke has a Whiskey menu that would make even the hardest biker weepy. The grub here sticks to you like a rawhide leather jacket. I double dare you to get the Double Fatty Fatboy from the grill, though you won't finish it. It's a monster burger with all kinds of fixins. If you are still hungry you should have the Corn Fires, OHMYGOD! Yeah they have salads, soups, ribs, sandwiches and other good food, but start with the basics.

PRICES

A double Fatboy (comes with fries) is around $10 and drinks are between $7 and $10, depending on what you order. The Whiskey selection can get pricey, but if this is your drink of choice the selection is the best that I've seen in Chicago.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

This is a place that you will spend time at with a bunch of your friends. Good drinks and good food to help with the hunger and hangover.
