White Sox on verge of history Print E-mail

OK, so it's just the first round. Still a step away from even making the World Series.

But it doesn't matter for White Sox fans. With one more win over the Boston Red Sox, they can celebrate their first playoff series victory in 88 years.

Lumino will keep you up-to-date throughout the White Sox 2005 postseason run!

That's right, 1917, when the White Sox last won a World Series. That's two years longer than whiny Red Sox fans had to put up with. And the Red Sox at least get movies ("Fever Pitch") and books written about them. How fitting it will be Friday as the White Sox have a chance to sweep the Red Sox. As one Sox fan's sign simply said on Wednesday night "It's our turn."

On Wednesday night, the White Sox won in dramatic fashion, with a three-run home run by second baseman Tadahito Iguchi. The homer capped a five-run fifth inning for the White Sox. Going into the inning, they were down 4-0. The win gave the White Sox a 2-0 edge in the five-game series, which now heads to Boston.

Pitchers Mark Buehrle and Bobby Jenks were able to hang on and quiet the Red Sox bats, which are the most feared in baseball.

Tune in Friday at 3 p.m. (skip work if you have to!) to see the White Sox try to snuff out the 2004 champion Red Sox. If the Red Sox hang on, the teams will square off again on Saturday and then back in Chicago on Sunday. Both game times are to be announced.
