What's most amazing is that it's the White Sox first post-season series victory since 1917, when they also last won the World Series.
Everything went right in the series for the White Sox. They pitched with perfection, played excellent defense, stole bases, bunted, and hit the long ball. And the ball seemed to bounce their way all series. It's that kind of magic that follows champions every year.
Hero at the bat was 1B Paul Konerko, who clocked a two-run home run in the sixth inning. On the mound, starter Freddy Garcia and closer Bobby Jenks pitched well. But the true savior was "El Duque" Orlando Hernandez, who came in to clean up fellow relief pitcher Damaso Marte's mess of a bases-loaded, nobody out pickle. But on two pop-ups and a strikeout, El Duque showed why he has the reputation of being a big-game pitcher in the postseason.
Next up for the White Sox is a seven-game series vs. either the Angels or Yankees. The Sox will have home-field advantage in either situation. The series will open Tuesday. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
