The White Sox beat the Angels Wednesday night to tie the seven-game American League Championship Series at one game apiece.

After both teams missed chances, Joe Crede, the White Sox' Mr. Clutch this year, hit a game winning double of the left field wall. Fans around the park jumped, screamed and hugged with joy and relief. I didn't even hear the fireworks go off, or the Sox theme song "Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye" blast from the sound system. The fans made their own noise.

A day later, all the media is talking about is the batter before Crede, catcher A.J. Pierzynksi. Pierzynski reached first on a drop third strike call, but the Angels, and some of the media, are questioning whether the pitch hit the ground (it needs to) or whether the umpire made the "out" call (he needs to). But the replay is inconclusive, and other strikeout calls in the game showed the umpire was consistent all game.

But the play didn't give the Sox the win, something the media isn't talking about. Pinch runner Pablo Ozuna made a gutsy steal of second base. Angels pitcher Kelvim Escobar had Joe Crede on an 0-2 count, and threw him a horrible pitch. Crede came through.

The true hero, though, may have been Sox starting pitcher Mark Buehrle. Just five hits in a complete game. Just one run. He kept his team in the game. And it was the most important game of the Sox' season so far.

Now, even though the Angels split, thus winning home-field advantage, the White Sox have made it basically a five-game series. They need to win one or two of the next three games (all in Anaheim), but the Sox are the best road team in the American League. Go Sox!
