On Sunday night, the White Sox completed a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to win the American League Championship series four games to one.Staring pitcher Jose Contreras went the distance, earning the White Sox their fourth complete game victory in a row. That hasn't happened since the 1929 Yankees. Yeah, the team with Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and company.
Obviously, the key to the White Sox is their pitching. Joining Contreras in the complete game victories were Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland, and Freddy Garcia. The White Sox' bullpen, one of the best in the major leagues, didn't even pitch a full inning in the five-game series. That's simply unheard of.
The Sox' hitting came through Sunday night as well. Joe Crede led the way with a solo home run to tie the game, 3-3, in the seventh inning. He also drove in the go-ahead fourth fun in the eight inning.
The MVP of the series, though, was Paul Konerko, whose two home runs gave the Sox' pitchers a comfortable lead in games three and four.
The next step for the Sox is the World Series, which hasn't hosted a Chicago team since the 1959 White Sox. The Cubs haven't been there since 1945. The White Sox will have home field advantage and will host the winner of the National League Championship Series on Saturday night, which the Houston Astros lead three games to one over the St. Louis Cardinals.
