No strangers to the road Our Lady Peace has toured with some of the best. They have opened up for the Rolling Stones, Robert Plant and The Ramones but it was these unassuming Canadian rock stars that brought out fans in Chicago. After all, they’ve been around for 13 years and have survived several line-up changes, but OLP have found a peaceful co-existence on stage on this tour.

| | | It’s pretty commonplace to go to an OLP show and have the audience sing most of the songs, even the new ones. Half of the songs performed were from their current release Healthy in Paranoid Times; and the fans new every word. From time to time vocalist Raine Maida would step back and let the audience serenade the band. This seemed to please Maida and about halfway though the show he commented that up until now it had been a shitty tour.
As a reward to the fans the band switched from the political propaganda by performing the song “Boy” one of the songs off of Healthy, much to the delight of the fans.
Not all of the music was new, they did give homage to their catalogue of work that spans over 10 years by including the songs “Starseed”, “Clumsy” and a crowd favorite “Superman’s Dead.” Let’s just hope that the tour doesn’t take them to Smallville since this tour is going all over the world. The tour matches the theme of their new release in that it they have a more worldly view nowadays.
Keeping an eye on the future Maida stated that, “You never know when we’ll be back, so take care of each other.” It seems to be the band’s philosophy in that no one in the band is really sure about its future, kind of like what is present in their music. You just never know. Does this mean that the rumors are true? Did they almost break up several times in the recording of the current release? Well that part is true, but please, these guys were having too much fun on stage that I doubt that any one of them would want to play with any other band. For now, OLP have found sanctuary on the stage, even if there was drama off stage left. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
