G. Love is the man. He is basically my hero. Look at the vitals – the boys can sign, write music, dance, rap, rhyme, and he looks good doing it. And, more importantly, he is Mr. Smooth with the ladies.

| | | Care to teach me a thing or two G.?
And, his name is G. I tried changing my name to “N”, but it just didn’t sound cool. Darn!
Anyway, Mr. Love and I have built up a nice little friendship over the years, so anytime he is in town, I have to give him a shout out, as he is one of my top three all-time favorite musicians.
If you have never seen G., now is your chance. He is performing a Halloween show that promises to knock your socks off if you dig his vibes. Off the hook my friends, off the hook. But, please take notice that this is an 18 and over show – so, if you are not 18, here’s something for you to look forward to.
Whaddup G.?
Hey man, what’s up?
You know, this is my like fourth time interviewing you. Pretty crazy huh?
Has it been that many?
Yeah, and each time it gets a little better.
(Laughs)
So, you are coming back to Chicago, yet again. This time for some scares on Halloween.
Yeah man, we always come back to Chicago to play a Halloween show. We love Chicago. Chicago is like our second home. We have a lot of great fans in the Midwest.
Yeah, Chicago has sort of made a home for you on Halloween.
Right. It’s sort of like our tradition.
Are there going to be any scary moments?
(Laughs) Probably not. We are just going to have a good time.
I hear ya. But, I have one idea of something that may be scary at your show (laughs). I guess it would be pretty scary if a fat guy took off his shirt at your show and he had your name written across his chest.
(Laughs) I hope that doesn’t happen.
But, if it’s a girl, and she’s hot, then it’s OK!
Exactly (laughs)
So, what are you going to be for Halloween?
I don’t know man. Probably G. Love (laughs).
(Laughs) You should go as a white rapper (laughs).
(Laughs) Very funny.
In our first interview, I asked you what your white rapper name would be and you said, ‘I am a white rapper.’ (Laughs) Those were the good ‘ol days.
(Laughs) Well, I really am a white rapper though. You were just trying to be funny.
I need help on my outfit. Last year I was a cheerleader – and I told people I was my boss in high school.
That’s kind of funny.
Yeah, imagine me in a cheerleading outfit. And even worse, my boss is a dude.
(Laughs) Not sure if that was the smartest move.
Yeah, you’re telling me. But everyone did laugh.
Dude, you have had some nice luck in Chicago this year. The last time you were here you got to play Lollapalooza, what an honor to play such a great festival, huh?
Absolutely. It is such an honor to be involved with such a great festival and it’s great that it was in Chicago. Obviously they are doing something different with Lollapalooza by having bands like Widespread Panic on it. The festival used to be all alternative bands, but now they are making it a live music festival, which is smart of them. We are a good bridging act between the jam bands and the radio bands. If you did put Widespread Panic on one scale and Weezer on another scale, we are the ones in the middle. It’s great to be able to fit into this festival. These are our fans.
Honestly, I have never quite understood why you aren’t as big as a Weezer.
I don’t know man. I don’t know. We are making good records, but I don’t know why we aren’t like a Weezer. We keep getting better and better at making records. I know it’s taking us a long time to kind of breakout, but we are learning the craft.
But, you guys are a live band – and probably one of the best around.
Thanks man. Thanks. We are just going to try to continue to get better in the studio and become a band like No Doubt and Weezer who can make these great records, yet are incredible live. I would love to be on the same stage.
So, do you think it’s possible to explode with the next album?
I’m really confident about this next album. I feel like “The Hustle” was the first page of chapter two. I think this next album will be the completion of chapter two and then we will see where we go from there.
Well, honestly, I really liked “The Hustle,” but I know you guys have great things coming.
Thanks man.
Seriously though, I absolutely love you. Well, not like that (laughs).
(Laughs) Thanks man. Yeah, we know we have better things coming, but it’s just hard being patient and all.
Dude, you are famous.
(Laughs) Yeah, I guess so.
(Laughs) I have a questions to go along with that statement.
(Laughs)
Is it tough? I mean always getting recognized.
It’s very interesting man. I don’t know. I can definitely walk down the street and not get recognized. I can even walk around my show and not get recognized.
Really?
Yeah, man. Swear to God.
You should go stand in the crowd before you go on and just start screaming “G.LOVE ROCKS.”
(Laughs) That would be crazy, man. I will be out on a date and someone will be like, ‘Yo, G.Love.’ And I’ll be like, ‘Yo baby, what’s up.’ (Laughs)
Naw. You’re like, ‘Yeah, baby, I have tomorrow night open.’
(Laughs) Exactly. No, but, yeah, it’s cool. It was funny being on tour with Jack (Johnson) in Australia and we would be walking through the airport and everyone would go crazy for him. I am kind of lucky that doesn’t happen to me. Jack handles it great and I like it. The main point of our whole conversation is that our shit is slowly rising and I look forward to seeing where it goes next. I feel like I have been doing this long enough that I will be able to handle this just fine.
Well, you have one guy in Chicago who will support you.
Thanks dude. That really means a lot.
Well, I mean it dude. I love you man.
I love you too (laughs).
