| | | The White Sox won a marathon of a game Tuesday night over the Astros, 7-5, to take a 3-0 lead in the 2005 World Series.
The Astros had numerous chances late in the game as the White Sox relief pitchers, including several who haven't pitched in weeks, put the Astros on with walks and hit batsmen. But the Astros couldn't drive in anyone, and finally, in the top of the 14th, Blum homered. With two outs, the Sox scored another run after that.
The Astros threatened one more time in the bottom of the 14th, but White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen went to his unlikely closer of the night, Game 2 starter Mark Buehrle. Buehrle got his man, and the Sox broke the Astros' hearts once again.
Look for the White Sox to sweep the series tonight. It's the critics' best matchup for the Sox, with Freddy Garcia pitching against the Astros' Brandon Backe.
If Garcia fails, it's OK. The Astros would still have to beat Jose Contreras, Buehrle, and Jon Garland again. Chances of that are worse than the Cubs making the World Series next year. Well, maybe not. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
