Jon Heder has traveled the world, speaks Japanese, holds a degree in animation, and is a practicing and married Mormon. But that's beside the point. The reason Jon Heder is super cool? Napoleon Dynamite.
Recently made famous by the film, Heder turns the character Napoleon - an awkward high school boy - into an endearing film personality with sweet "dance moves." Heder's most impressive quality? He made this character work. It could have been disastrous.
Heder is a master at convincing an audience the actor is not separate from the character. But that's not the case. Heder is completely normal. He doesn't have curly hair, his nose loses all projectory beak qualities and his lips actually meet and close!
He's also way into '70s clothes and music - Led Zeppelin is one of his faves. In an interview, Heder said he used to be a huge T-N-M-T fan (that's right, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) in middle school. Heder also drew all of the pictures in the film, describing himself a much better artist than Napoleon.
A graduate of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, Heder got his degree in animation, and went to Japan for his mission (part of the Mormon religion). Heder and his wife now live in Los Angeles. |
