When you’re young and living in Chicago, there are a vast number of college-type bars that can visit on any given night—especially if you are living in what I like to call “Lincoln Park University,” like I am. I do love it, but sometimes it makes me feel like I am pursuing my masters in Hard Liquor and Domestic Ales, which is ok at times, but sometimes you JUST need a break from the beer and the greasy food.

Sound-Bar
226 W. Ontario St.
Chicago, IL 60610
(312) 787-4480
www.sound-bar.com

Hours:
10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursdays through Fridays
10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturdays
10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Sundays

Sound-Bar is the ideal location for one to get away from the aforementioned “extracurricular activities.” It is a great place to meet your friends without having to rub shoulders with the creepy man who continually stares at every girl in the room. It’s a spacious, swanky destination for hip young people who are looking to have a great time.

ATMOSPHERE

Upon walking into the bar, you immediately feel overwhelmed by its spacious interior. With two floors filled with nine bars, two lounges, three DJ booths and a dance floor that stretches across 4,000 square-feet, it’s hard to feel claustrophobic in a place this big. Not to mention the impressive and modernistic look and feel of the club, its stainless steel and plush red furnishing surround you at every corner. When you walk downstairs, it’s almost as if you’ve stepped into the VIP lounge of a hot nightclub frequented by celebrities. The lights are dimmed down low and there is techno music bumping and bouncing off of the richly colored walls. Other high-tech accoutrements are movable screens, floor-to-ceiling walls of frosted glass, and fog machines just to name a few.

CROWD

The people here are hip and looking to be noticed by one and all. Stylish men and women fill the club on every night of the weekend, and it’s no surprise. Dancing, drinks, and comfortable lounge furniture make it a comfortable setting for laid back people who are looking to relax and hang out. For those who are more into the action, live DJs are constantly spinning house and techno music, encouraging people to dance.

ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS

Thursdays at Sound Bar promise a reduced $10 cover for its patrons and the chance to take in the mixes of residents Lego and Diz, two house DJs. On Saturdays, experienced house DJs John Curley, Chris Tomasone and Jernell Geronimo are featured.

SPIRITS

Sound-Bar has everything in the way of alcohol— wine, champagne, martinis, and everything else from bottles of Miller Lite to bottles of Courvoisier. The drink prices are definitely a little inflated, but that can be expected at the upscale club such as this. After all, just this summer, America’s darlings Jenna and Barbara Bush partied the night away at Sound -Bar. The Bush twins might have taken advantage of the bottle service and variety of VIP options that are available. For Sound Bar’s most loyal customers, the “Sound Car” is available on three different levels—depending on your past contributions to the club. The blue discount pass guarantees priority entrance, a discounted admission and discounts with business who partner up with the club. The gold and platinum cards are more exclusive and offer even more benefits to the valued customer.

PRICES

If you are consciously watching your pocketbook, this establishment might not be your best friend. You can easily spend a majority of that hard earned salary that you’ve worked so hard to earn all week. On Fridays and Saturdays the cover is $20, and on Thursdays it is $10.

WHY IT'S UNIQUE

How many nights in a weekend do you get to drink with your friends in a trendy lounge where DJs play to your taste and bartenders pander to your every wish? Feel like a Hollywood celebrity when you go out. You deserve to splurge and be pampered every now and then.
