VooDoo casts a spell on clubgoers Print E-mail

For once, there is a club that doesn’t demand beauty the second you walk in the door. Of course, when I walk in the door, the room lights up, but being beautiful is not a requirement of VooDoo.

VooDoo Nightclub
601 Mall Drive
Schaumburg, IL
(847) 969-1602
I like to call it the club of personality. A place where you can feel comfortable showing the world your inner self. I’m not being wicked mean, I’m just being wicked honest. There were big people, small people, ugly people, weird people and some hot people; as well as blacks, whites, Hispanics, Asians – you name it, they were there.

But before the critique could begin, my date for the evening (Lumino’s Ann Finstad) and I had to experience the clubs setting, taste and flare. When you walk into VooDoo, you are immediately drilled with an eerie shock, as the paint, carpet and lighting make you feel as if you are in an enchanted mansion where secrets are hidden deep within the walls. The comfortable seating right by the fireplace gives the club a very intimate feel, despite the blasting music piercing the air. Loud music, yet intimate – can it get any better?

Our visit was on a Friday night, which ultimately meant a cover charge. At $7, one would be initially shocked that entrance into a suburban (Schaumburg) club would enforce such a hefty charge. But, after seeing the daily special listed at the table we claimed as ours for the night, $2 you name it drinks – including the clubs special martinis (try the White Zombie)– made $7 a well worth wager.

Even better, VooDoo seems semi desperate to attract more people to its club, as there is almost a nightly special, whether that be Thursday ladies nights or $1 you name it Wednesdays, those of you who give this club a lickin’ will keep on tickin’ right on back.

As we proceeded to get liquored up on the economical bar tab, we both took notice to the crafty blend of sound and light on the dance floor. People – including the averages – got lost in the music (and booze) on the dance floor, giving the DJ signals that his mixes were appreciated by the clubbers.

It has been said over and over again that the suburban clubs are not as good as the cities, and maybe that is true, however, there are some pretty damn good clubs out there. VooDoo is one of them, and definitely a club worth checking out – if not for the setting, then for the cheap drinks.
