There is something to be said about a bar that has its own sports leagues – something about watching simultaneous volleyball games that makes you forget that you are at a bar.

Opened in 1969, The Tracks, at the corner of Humbolt Avenue and Locust Street, is not the typical Riverwest watering hole. It has three outdoor sand volleyball courts adjacent to the bar, and runs its own volleyball league where 140 co-ed teams play weekly. That sets it apart at the outset.Tracks tries to cultivate a more friendly, neighborly, family-oriented sports bar. Though it results in more of a "Cheers" feeling than an alcoholic Applebee's. During football season, this is a great bar to watch the Packers on three big-screen TVs with a bunch of friends and the hundred new friends you will meet. Tracks also sponsors the beer run in the annual Locust Street Festival, of which they have been called an anchor establishment. My favorite spot is the patio on a warm spring evening. You can sit by the open fire pit, order from the grill, and still watch a game on television or in the volleyball pit. While the menu is generally standard bar-and-grill fare, it is prepared very well. The atmosphere is comfortable, and the staff is pleasant. Tracks is a good place to go for a relaxed and casual evening. The great draw here is that Tracks feels local and friendly, like your corner bar, even if you live miles away. It is definitely a worthy change of pace from the Water Street and North Avenue scenes. That, and reverse happy hour from 10 p.m. to close. People love reverse happy hour. Powered by AkoComment 2.0! |
