It's a Solly's world after all Print E-mail

When I think of the world’s greatest burger, I imagine taking it down in a seedy bar or tavern with a lot of bikers and leather-clad patrons inhaling cigarettes and beef while sloshing down beer from a bottle.
Solly’s Grille couldn’t be further from that image.

Established in the early 1900s, Solly’s Grille is family owned and operated. The locale for the establishment has a clean and rustic feel to it, conjuring up sentiments of the past with nostalgic photos while serving malts in steel glasses – just like the soda shows of the early 1900’s. But this burger joint isn’t a seedy place after all. In fact, it’s a clean and smoke-free environment that the whole family can enjoy.

Solly’s is a stop on the Milwaukee tour for many families. You often find professionals mixing with high-school students there, indulging in the food and ambiance. While there are enough suits around to make you feel like you’re at a convention, at any given time, you can find children enjoying their first malts, shakes or banana splits. Locals can find solace in a non-chain restaurant where the food is unbelievable, and the staff helps to make you feel like you are a part of their family.

Although there might not be a karaoke night every Wednesday or a beer special on Tuesdays, Solly’s true claim to fame is its food. Receiving high marks time after time for its exemplary cooking accolades, the folks at Solly’s cook up the best burgers in town (in addition to providing a fine selection of breakfasts and other a la carte entrees). Having come to be known as "sliders" among the patrons, Solly’s burgers keep with the tradition of butter burgers that have raised the brows of the health conscious. Nevertheless, only the best ingredients are used for the best burgers (as well as the rest of the menu) around. Only the top grade sirloin is used for the hamburgers, in addition to real butter and cholesterol-free oils. The folks at Solly’s have thought of it all and perfected their craft.

Just because the food is so talked about, the desserts should not go overlooked. From fresh homemade pies and sundaes, the most talked about dessert would have to be the malts. Thick enough to eat up with a spoon, the malts and shakes are hand-mixed for the perfect consistency of ice cream and malt powder. And the ice cream sodas have had people coming back to Solly’s for years. If you’re from the area, you’ll want to try the local soda and beer favorite, Sprecher Root Beer Float. Ultimate satisfaction.

Priced reasonably enough to invite the entire family, Solly’s is a nostalgic trip through Milwaukee’s history. And if history’s not your thing, the true draw is the buttery bunned goodness that Solly’s cooks up for your dining pleasure.
