Recipe for a cool movie: A setting. A script. Lights. Cameras. Action. Directions:  Mix all of the above and sprinkle with some kick ass movie stars.

It’s no secret that movie stars make a movie cool.  They are ultimately the reason that we watch movies. Whether it be for eye candy, a few laughs or simply out of amusement, we are watching because movie stars rock. And some top the cake more so than others.

Will Ferrell is the epitome of a cool actor. His movies are designed for non-stop laughs.  For seven solid years he defined Saturday Night Live with his sincere humor and skin exposure. Thank goodness he didn’t stick with his plan of becoming a sports broadcaster. It’s hard to imagine Hollywood without him pulling stunts or “running naked past the quad to the gymnasium.”

One of the most sought-after and highly paid actors of all time probably wouldn’t have believed he’d have the success he does, if he had only known that his future would lead him out of the seminary school and into a Hollywood legend.  Let’s face it, Tom Cruise rocked and continues to rock. And it has “showed him the money.”

Actress/producer, Drew Barrymore has movie star in her blood. She’s got as many quirks as any kid growing up in a “showbiz” family and uses every one of her talents to move movie mountains. She is one of the few actresses to have the rare ability to act in both dramatic and comedic parts.

Ben Stiller was destined to be a movie star. His parents, legendary comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, could hardly keep the kid out of the limelight. He dropped out of UCLA to produce and act in a few films before having his own show on MTV even before MTV was the 10-ton gorilla that it is today. I know I’d definitely want to take him home to “Meet the Parents.”

If you ask me, Denzel Washington doesn’t need another “training day” to get that body any more beautiful. His intimidating demeanor probably didn’t come from his minister father. But whoever Denzel attributes his acting talents to, I applaud you as well.

Westerns wouldn’t be worth watching if it weren’t for Clint Eastwood – the definition of macho. You know a guy is tough if he survives a plane crash during the Korean War and swims 3 miles to shore.  It’s hard to believe this a-list actor started out getting paid $75 a week.

Bill Murray’s not afraid of no ghosts or being lost in translation. But we can definitely translate his talent as one of the coolest actors of all time. How refreshing it is to see an actor who is still in touch with his family – even if he is one of nine children.

Former runner-up in the Miss USA pageant, Halle Berry exceeds beauty in her acting roles, especially in a super-tight cat suit. She deserved every vote she received to win an Oscar for Best Actress.

Born with amazing acting ability but living out of a Volkswagen camper is not the picture perfect dream world that Jim Carrey probably would have wished for. But what an achievement he has made for himself as one of the coolest actors of all time and chosen as one of the 50 most beautiful people in People magazine.

There’s something about Cameron Diaz that makes her one awesome actress. Could it possibly be her fun loving charm? Or perhaps it’s the blue eyes and blonde hair? Although I can’t put my finger on it, the girl appears to possess everything necessary to become one of the superstars of the century.

Tom Hanks’ trademark may be playing ordinary conflicted guys but this guy is extraordinary in my opinion. Gaining and losing weight for roles does anything but “cast away” a vote as one of the coolest people in movies of all time. Tom has so much dedication for his work it puts others to shame.

The recipe for a good movie involves one key ingredient – awesome movie stars. A cool actor is someone who takes the reigns and has moviegoers going crazy.  uddenly we have to see the new movie with Jack Nicholson and can’t wait for the new John Travolta movie Friday night. It’s not the script. It’s not the setting. It is the coolest people of all time in movies.
