The laid-back Louisiana native talks with a thick accent and is full of nothing but respect, which I can appreciate, especially when I hassle him about his lawnmower. But, hey, Broussard likes to cut the grass.

You think I’m crazy?

Check it out below for yourself.

Snip, snip.

Where you at my man?

Baton Rouge.

Are you on tour right now?

Yeah, I’m on tour.

How’s that treating you?

It’s going excellent man. I am really, really excited about this tour.

Now, this being your first big time tour, is everything just blowing your mind?

It’s pretty crazy man. I spent the last two years on the road setting this all up, but still, it’s very fresh and very real.

Right on. Right on.

So, what are your thoughts on playing the Midwest?

Oh, I love playing Chi town. I really do love playing Chi town. Last time I was there, I brought my father up. It was a real, real, real good time.

Have you spent a lot of time in the Midwest? I mean, you are from Louisiana and the people are nice there too.

Um, I have spent a significant time in the Midwest. I know I have played Chicago probably 10 times now.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re in Chicago?

Shop.

(Laughs) What’s the coolest thing you bought within the last few weeks?

There was this … oh the coolest thing I bought in the last two weeks? Oh, I would have to say. I would have to say. I would have to say. Huh.

No big cars?

(Laughs) No, no big cars. I’m not into buying big cars just yet. Someday.

You must have bought a cool hat within the last few weeks.

Yeah, I did buy a cool hat from this record store. It is a real cool hat.

You seem to have some style in all your pictures.

(Laughs)

How are the ladies on the road?

Um, they’re really cool. The ladies that come up to my shows have a lot of class. They are real fun.

(Laughs) Real fun.

But, I’m an unavailable man.

You are?

Yes sir.

Does that make it a little tougher on the road?

Definitely, because she’s at home.

Does she come on the road with you?

No, not that much.

That must be tough.

Well, we have a son together, so she is usually tending to our son. He’s two and half.

Rock on.

What goes through your head every time you sit back and realize that you are making bank from playing the guitar? Is it just all really surreal to you?

You know what? It’s so much a part of who I am. I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.

When you were a kid, did you dream about being a rock star?

I did. I’m guilty. (Laughs)

So, who did you look up to? Who did you say when I grow up I want to be like this person?

I guess back in the day it was Stevie Wonder and Brian McKnight.

Have you ever met them?

No, I haven’t.

You are going to go on Jimmy Kimmel soon (March 1), are you excited for that?

Yeah man, I’m really excited. It’s going to be a good time. I’m really excited about Conan O’Brien though.

When is Conan?

March 29.

Awesome. See, you have things going for you. Rock star baby!

I have been a fan of Conan for a real long time.

Are you nervous about playing on TV with so many people watching at home?

Naw man. I have played Jay Leno. I put up the same show and same amount of energy into each show.

Yeah, I saw you on Leno. You were real good.

Cool.

You are basically on the brink of being absolutely huge. Does that ever blow your mind?

(Laughs) No, man, I don’t really think about that. I just try to do whatever I have to do that day.

Let’s say it all ends and you have to ditch the rock and pick back up as a rapper, what would your name be?

(Laughs) Bayou Bruce. That’s my nickname.

Is that a potential career if this rock thing doesn’t work out.

A white rapper? I don’t think so.

So, if you weren’t a singer, what would you be?

Um. I would probably be cutting grass.

Would you enjoy that?

I really enjoy cutting grass.

But the bank is building up right?

Uh, not really man. It’s still really slow. I’m not really worried about the money cause I’m paying my bills. It will come though.

And when the money comes, will you hire someone to cut the grass or are you still going to cut it.

I will still cut it, but I will get a nicer lawnmower.

Did you know?

Broussard is from Carencro, Louisiana

He is only 22 years old

He played clubs with his dad at the age of 5
