The setting: Lixx Custard and Frozen Juice Bar. The cast: my friend with an extraordinary palate for taste, and myself. The flavor: pumpkin custard. The quote: “This is the best custard I’ve ever had. It’s like they took a pumpkin pie and somehow put it into creamy custard form.

Although I promised said friend I’d use the quote (in exchange for a dinner, sucker), he spoke the truth. In actuality, he’s not only buying me a dinner, but writing my article for me by making me use his quote about how good Lixx is for a late-night snack.

In all seriousness, Lixx’s variety is second-to-none. They not only serve some of the creamiest custard I’ve ever had, but feature well-thought out flavors that go beyond the classic chocolate and vanilla. The spread doesn’t stop at the custard; they serve sundaes, frozen yogurt (it’s always been “frogurt” to me though), smoothies, sandwiches, wraps, and any mixture of the aforementioned items with your choice of topping – about every candy and fruit topping you can imagine. The staff behind the counter are mix-masters; if you’re not sure on what to order, ask them to whip you up something special and they’ll take you to taste bud heaven.

Although the sandwiches get the job done, they don’t go far from your typical homemade style sandwich on white bread with some lettuce, tomato and cheese. After all, it’s the sweet stuff that you want from Lixx.

Buy it by the pint, the dish, sugar cone or waffle cone, but options are your main asset when going to Lixx. As if which container to east from wasn’t enough to make your choice difficult, you’ve got toppings. Chocolate, caramel, candy, fruit. The list at Lixx is literally never-ending.

Lixx has also got it going on in terms of location; on the corner of Downer Street and Belleview Place, it sits in an eccentric East Side area amongst other restaurants, coffee shops and the Downer Theaters.

Although the lines will die down as the thermometer’s mercury continues to drop, you should still expect a short wait on your order as devoted UWM students and area residents flock to Lixx in droves. Sooner than later, their secret Lixx hideout will no longer remain as such a secret hideout.
