The Alpine Valley Music Theatre claims to be one of the largest outdoor concert venues in the United States. At 35,000 seats (lawn included), that assertion has merit.
The theater hosts some of the biggest touring acts each year. At about 40 miles from Brew town and 90 miles from the Windy City, it's considered both a Milwaukee and Chicago stop for acts. Sometimes a Chicago venue will also have a show, but not always.

Tickets are available at the Riverside Theatre box office, 116 W. Wisconsin Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Weekend hours vary. No phone orders are accepted. Tickets are also available at all Ticketmaster locations and at the theatre box office on the day of the show.

ATMOSPHERE
Alpine Valley is the usual outdoor pavilion/lawn concert venue. But its grounds are beautiful, and the venue resides in the middle of nowhere. Alpine Valley also has a nearby golf course and ski resort.
CROWD
Of course, the attending crowd will vary with the artist performing. You've got your ex-hippies seeing Jimmy Buffett or Crosby, Stills and Nash, your forever-college kids at Dave Matthews or your metalheads at Ozzfest.
ENTERTAINMENT / EVENTS
The venue is pretty skimpy on events. The rest of the summer features only six more concerts, all but one on weekends. But Alpine has had busier summers in the past. Dwindling concert ticket sales have slowed bookings down in more recent years.
SPIRITS
Alpine Valley sells beer in its beer garden, but the drinks can be taken back to your seat. This was not the case in prior years.
GRUB
The venue sells the usual outdoor concert food: pizza, nachos, etc.
PRICES
As with any major acts, tickets at Alpine Valley will be pricey. At least you can rest assured that parking is included in the price.
WHY IT'S UNIQUE
The sheer size of the Alpine Valley Music Theatre is intriguing. Its hilly terrain is also a change of pace. And the combination of outdoor air and big-name acts inspire you to save your ticket stub to help preserve the night's memory.
